WHAT IS BICROPHONICS?
Bicrophonics explores the mobility of sound and music by making compositions that are triggered and transformed by you the cyclist and the spaces you ride through. Playing from bicycle mounted speakers, free of headphones and free of the internet, each ride will give you a new sonic experience whilst turning once familiar streets into a startling new movie.
Bicrophonics was first explored through Matthews’ experiments with Radio Cycle(2002) and The Marvelo Project (2008), then developed internationally through the establishment of the collective Bicrophonic Research Institute(2013) within which five different kinds of Sonic Bikes have been designed and built, making 25 Sonic Bike operas to date.
